Go ME - I got banned.

Okay, I seemed to have gotten banned from the Doctor Who community. A discussion on Left Turn got very heated and one person in particular was very, very nasty. After a scathing post they left another member I posted this in reply to them.

" It is you using diversion, name calling and offensive tactics. You clearly cannot tolerate anyone who disagrees with your world view. And you clearly appear to hate anyone not like you. (in my world that makes you a racist and a snob).

But you are entitled to your opinion. It may be best to express them however, in a personal LJ or a blog, not in a Community that is suppose to be about a fictional TV show.

May I suggest you move this to your personal livejournal, blog or another political forum or community and not clutter this DW community with your superior attitude of what we should all believe and your hatred.

I am sure many would appreciate it.

Roberta"

I got this back,

The War King (thehornedgod) replied to a comment you left in a LiveJournal post. "

"No, I think I'll stay right here. You, on the other hand, have come to the end of the road."

I tried to reply, but it will not take it. I assume that means I am banned. Turns out this person is some kind of co-mod, whatever that means. Clearly they can lock out people.

Half to say, their action only proves the point. They posted the initial topic and when most disagreed with them, began escalating it and calling people names, etc. Then after the initial episode re - Left Turn - settled down, they put up a new post to get it going again. I replied after the called someone names.

Anyway, go me, and talk about an abuse of power? Can I complain to LJ or is this really fan run and as a co-mod they have full discretion?

Roberta

Yeah, that person is one of the people who runs the comm, and that comm is one of the wankiest ones out there. The people who run it, well, let's just say I wouldn't post there :) I know there must be other DW comms out there, but I haven't gotten around to looking.

It used to be a good community before the censorship. I too got banned on the same thread but props to Roberta for posting this. Something has to be said as it's tantamount to draconian censorship.

And now she is veteran fan! Her first banning! I remember when she was a fandom newbie when we first met at a con and didn't even have a computer. I set her up with an LJ, and the rest is history! Go, Bertie!!

Good on you (and loving your taste on icons!).

This is the first time I have ever been banned too, I am usually most moderate and restrained but there something about this idiot that set alarm bells ringing.

Time will tell though.

I am in full Iron Man is Eating My Brain mode [g] I've been making icons, writing fic, starting comms. It is sad and pathetic, but I'm loving it!

Fan practice in a positive way is fantastic! I wrote my dissertation on fandom 8 years ago and I love it! (When it's not political and shite of course). Go you and keep making those icons!

*Avengers Assemble!*

It has been a while since I've had a new fandom :)

Yes, but it is fun and many of us are enjoying your new fandom efforts. I even went to see Iron Man and liked it - a lot. RDJ was hot! (I did acknowledge being shallow right?)

It is sad. A lot of what was discussed and tossed out was interesting and reasonable. Why a moderator would want to fan the flames of dissent is beyond me. It was clear after his initial post that the topic was divisive. To me it should have been taken off line or to another forum better suited for that type of discussion. Why he would started it up again is beyond me.

I am actually thinking of sending an email to the other moderator. Not that it will do any good, but censorship is not a very enlightened approach to maintain a community.

Very true. Good luck with that email.

I think deepdown that mod hates fandom and the text. By controlling what other people think/post, he can reconcile his fannish leanings.

Classic sublimation case.

And I just left the comm. It's been getting on my nerves for a while, so it was time.

There's a counter for the bad, this post cheered me up a little:

Feel free to spread the word!

Sorry, like I said it has interesting stuff. I like the episode discussion, but then I can probably wait until the Christmas special when new ones come out.

Oh, well.

Thanks for the support.

I've found several replacement comms today, so we'll see how those work out. They can't be worse than the Doctor Who one.

I'm a member of the [info]doctorwho comm but stopped paying attention to them a long time ago. I don't see their posts on my friends page anymore but I don't know how to leave the community. How do you do it?

Go Roberta!

One way is to go to your http://www.livejournal.com/friends/edit.bml page and remove them from your friends list.

Good to see you posting this Roberta. It's a sad day that a level headed and rational poster like you gets banned from the comm for just voicing how they *feel*

Thanks, but his replies where getting nasty. And, why when the initial hubbub died down did he raise it again in a new thread (post)? He has to want to create dissent and discourse on the community. Why is what I cannot figure out.

In a way I feel sorry for him. Clearly there is a lot of anger and insecurity at his core. Hopefully someday he can learn to engage in a discussion without resorting to name calling and inflammatory rhetoric. But alas, right now he is using a very immature playground tactic here in America - that is, he is taking his ball and going home when the rest of the kiddies don't want to play what he wants.

Go Roberta! Nothing like getting banned from a list or community. Seriously, for a mod to be acting that was is unacceptable. You're better off for not being a member.

Thanks, it kind of bothers me. He was getting totally hostile and unreasonable and just nasty. It really was like he wants tension and dissent and to make people angry.

NOw it seems he removed my post but left his flaying the other person.

Childish? Oh yeah!

The internet can be a cesspool. You just have to be careful where you put your feet :)
